the complete guide to using theautspot was created by Dele Popoola and Greg Koltsov, graduates of the University of California Santa Barbara. Dele’s 18-year old cousin, Matthew, who was diagnosed with autism at an early age, inspired the two young men to create the online community following their graduation from college in 2007.

Dele and Greg worked in close collaboration with parents and specialists to create a free online community that would link family members and specialists nationwide who dealt with children diagnosed with autism.

Like many others, Dele and Greg are alarmed at the increasing number of children being diagnosed with autism each year. Through TheAUTSPOT social network, they intend to raise the level of awareness about the disorder. They are hopeful that the site will be the bridge that links more experienced individuals with parents of newly-diagnosed children. Through, Dele and Greg envision autism being vigorously addressed with collaborative strength.

Talk About Curing Autism (TACA) provides information, resources, and support to families affected by autism. For families who have just received the autism diagnosis, TACA aims to speed up the cycle time from the autism diagnosis to effective treatments. TACA helps to strengthen the autism community by connecting families and the professionals who can help them, allowing them to share stories and information to help people with autism be the best they can be.

What we offer & why you should join! was created out of necessity. Dele and Greg both saw a void in the Autism community that the generation before them wasn’t able to see: social networking. With Twitter, Facebook, MySpace being household names in 2010. It was just a matter of time before autism, one of the fastest growing demographics and communities on the internet got an interactive platform online where memebers could help each other out by offering advice, creating support groups, and most importantly facilitating awareness for this widely misunderstood and often controversial disorder.
Currently there are only a handful of actual communities were those looking for help online can turn to, for instance Yahoo! Groups has an autism category, but once you get inside you quickly realize with 2,000+ different sub-groups you may have a hard time finding that one group which was right for you. That is the ultimate goal of Create that one group just for you.
The following list explains the six core features of that will help you tailor this website into that goal.

“Our blogs, forums, live chat, and messaging features enable you to link up with other individuals within the autism community. Individuals across the globe will be able to share their personal experiences in dealing with autism”

Those of us at TheAUTSPOT can’t believe how LARGE the Aut community is online. I mentioned ‘Yahoo! Groups’ earlier and how they have two-thousand sub Aut groups. If you venture of to you’ll see a small social network that they just threw together, but more importantly they are a autism information website. The different with the AUTSPOT is that we specialize in creating the ONE online support group, general advice, and real time chat groups. Think of as one mixing bowl of support! Not only will you get the most diverse group possible but everyone brings something else to the table, veterans of autistic children will all agree that different viewpoints on this controversial matter is much better than a local support group (but still go to those!)

“Our AUTSPOT library provides a vast amount of updated information gathered through diligent research, which will clarify many of your questions and concerns about autism. Whether you are an individual experienced in the field of autism, or just someone eager to learn more about the disorder, the Online Library is your key to gaining more knowledge.”

A work in progress that when completed will be your one stop shop for anything and everything related to autism. We’ve pulled articles from legitimate sources from online and offline publications so you don’t have to keep going to back to your search engine of choice to ask your question which may come up with answers that aren’t necessarily the truth. Check it out here:

logo_96“Our User-based Resource section is updated daily, and it allows you to find current autism resources within your own neighborhood (therapists, doctors, schools, after school programs, summer camps, recreation, lawyers, and many more). This section also allows you to add autism resources that you are familiar with, and others may find beneficial.”

Our global resource center has been hand crafted by Dele starting back in April of 2009. now has it’s own search engine where you can input your zip code and specialist you are looking for and find all your local resources in area! We are very proud to have a unique engine created 100% by that encompasses every single state! No one is left out. This feature was just made public so all feedback is welcome, and if you can’t find what you are looking for, shoot us an e-mail and we will do our best to find what exactly what you are looking for! Remember we are here to help.. Don’t ever hesitate to contact us for any help you need!

“The Inspirational Stories feature allows you to share and read motivational stories of child progress and accomplishment.”

We understand the stress parents of autistic children face, especially the parents new to the community. Autism is not always burden, in fact there are countless stories out there regarding children on the autistic spectrum who channel their ‘disablitiy’ into something extraordinary! Inside TheAUTSPOT you will find testimonials from parents explaining how their child overcame their diagonsis to make something extraordinary. Post your own stories, read other stories, and take a look at our blog to see some of the best examples of this. We promise you’ll leave your computer screen with a smile on your face and ideas on how you can help your child hone in on their skills to excel in life, in ways other children can’t.

logo_96TheAUTSPOT’s simple Developmental Charts allow you to keep your friends and family members up-to-date on the development of your child as he or she matures in age. In this section, members can exchange helpful information and advice on how they improved their child’s capabilities.

Our Developmental Charts are an easy way to keep your loved ones updated on the status of your autistic child as they grow, learn, and mature. Perhaps your family is spread throughout America or even the world. Now they can just log in to TheAUTSPOT and see how their autism family memeber is improving through the years. This is always a great way to give and receive feedback from other parents who are updating their developmental charts, you are able to give each other advice and suggestions from other who have already been in your situation with tips on how to improve the growth of your child.

“The Built-in Calendar feature allows you to notify other site members about upcoming events and activities that are taking place in the autism community.”

There is only so much we can do online. The greatest way to build autism awareness and get involved with the community is to attend events offline – and there are PLENTY of them. Post your own events, we’ll post ours and you can check our calendar which is updated in real time to see what events will be taking place in your area. This can range from support groups, seminars, bake sales, walk-a-thons.. you name it. TheAUTSPOT is just an online hub for everyone to come together to support each other online, exchange information. The real damage will be done in the real world. Get involved!
