GROUND BREAKING STUDY!!! Two Grade Levels “JUMP” in just 12 Weeks HUGE Advancement for Kids with ADHD!

GROUND BREAKING STUDY!!! Two Grade Levels “JUMP” in just 12 Weeks HUGE Advancement for Kids with ADHD!

Board Certified, Dr. Nelson Mane’, Tampa said,”Many children go from Worst to First in their class and have standardized testing scores improved!”

“There is a great amount of research behind the concepts of Hemispheric Integration Therapy and the success it is having with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Last year the concept of functional disconnection syndrome was presented in the scientific literature and now the first outcome study was published in the “International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health”, adds Mane’.

“This is a drug-free approach for the world of ADHD and learning disabilities, and with such significant improvement in a 12 week period amazes many parents and teachers alike.”

Dr Nelson Mane a Board Certified Chiropractic Neurologist has been interviewed by Spectrum Magazine, and the Tampa ABC, CBS, NBC affiliates as well as Bay News 9 for his work applying Hemispheric Integration Therapy and functional neurology for children and adults with ADHD, learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.  He was featured in the Autism documentary “Walking in the Dark: Finding the Light in Autism.”

Study: published in the “International Journal of Adolescent Medicine and Health. Tampa, Aug 23, 2010Improvements as much as 2 to 4 grade levels upon pre-and post-WIAT (Wechsler Individual Achievement Test) with regard to reading, comprehension, written and oral expression and math reasoning were observed after a 12 week program of Hemispheric Integration Therapy. The program consisted of procedures such as aerobic and strength conditioning exercises, motor training including rhythm and timing exercises, sensory stimulation as well as academic training. A WIAT is a common test used by psychologist and the school systems to assess children with ADD and ADHD as well as other learning disorders. The WIAT includes subtest such as word reading, reading comprehension, math reasoning, spelling, written expression, listening comprehension and oral expression. The Brown Scale an ADHD assessment tool also showed improvements. The study was conducted by the F.R. Carrick Institute for Clinical Ergonomics, Rehabilitation and Applied Neuroscience, University of Haifa, DeMontfort University, and the Carrick Institute for Graduate Studies.

Autism and Jaundice Babies: A Risk Factor

A new study finds an association between babies that have Autism and babies born with jaundice.

This article refers to a “total load” meaning the summation of stressors on the child that cause the breakdown.

It also warns to please be cautious, as this is only a risk factor and not a marker.

Other risk factors include parental age, familial history, male child, breech presentation, birth before 35 weeks, low birth weight, mothers who used medicine during pregnancy, etc.

“Hope” is a state of “Well-Being” that is truly POWERFUL indeed…may this “HOPE” for Autism Spectrum be spread FAR and WIDE!!!

Are we getting the Word Out??? …With “Your” Help …WE CAN!!!

We are what we eat

When we look at autism and autism spectrum disorders, no one knows for sure where these disorders come from. Many people place the blame on vaccinations, while some are looking for genes that could be responsible for the disorder.  Others still are considering the idea that certain environmental conditions could be triggering gene development. Now, with so many changes happening to the things we use and the foods we eat, it seems that everything has come under fire as a contributor to the boom in autism today.

Whatever the cause, autism is a condition that affects many of a child’s bodily systems. This in turn impacts his digestion, which can then have negative consequences on his ability to function. The digestive system is where the blood takes nutrients to distribute throughout the body, which is why a child’s diet and lifestyle are so important to his overall health. His behaviour can be affected by what he eats, so what we need to do is take a look at how it impacts his digestive system and his ability to function.

Behaviour and the foods we eat

As the old saying goes, you are what you eat. I have read a lot of discussions about behaviour and how it can be linked to the things that you feed an autistic child. However, I think that what we should look at first is what can cause a child’s unmanageable behaviour in the first place before we examine any special dietary needs. Even on a regular basis, certain foods can cause hyperactivity and a lack of concentration.

A few weeks ago for example, I was having lunch with a friend of mine and his daughter at a beautiful restaurant. Once it was time to order, he requested chicken fingers for her. When her meal arrived, it consisted of a few chicken fingers floating in a big pool of ketchup. Needless to say, the moment she finished her food she became hyperactive and difficult for my friend to manage. Personally, I observed the same type of behaviour in many children who ate junk food and sweets. This can be attributed to the high amounts of refined sugar, salt, artificial flavours, colourings and preservatives that a child may consume on a daily basis.

Effects on the digestive system

It is best to stick to unprocessed foods when choosing what to give to your child. However, there are certain foods that are easier for a child to digest. In particular, I know that dairy and meat products are very heavy on the digestive system, because the body has to work much harder to break down the proteins in these foods. Once the digestive system is working hard, the brain cannot function as well since most of the blood is going to the stomach. That is why they say that it is easier to learn when your stomach is empty.

Looking at your child’s lifestyle

Because of this, your child will require foods which are nutritious, yet easy for him to digest. Your best bet would be vegetables and fruits, and if you decide to still give your child bread, then you will need to look at the ingredients list for wholesome and natural ingredients. A child needs to eat healthy foods, without artificial colourings or flavourings, in order to function properly. This is true for all children, including those with autism and other neurological conditions. Personally, I believe that while they may be factors, it is not just gluten, casein or dairy products that lie at the root of the problem; foods also have to be freshly made and freshly cooked for your child. How a product is produced can greatly affect your child’s health, especially if it is overly processed before being consumed.

Making mealtime a chance to learn

In this respect, mealtime can be more than just a time for eating. For a child with autism, each part of his daily life is a chance for learning and exploration. At dinner, you should take the time to see what, why and how he eats and interacts with those around him. When you teach your child to eat, do not simply feed him; show him how to use his spoon, and guide him into learning how to use it himself.

While mealtime may be challenging for some, remember that each decision you make is in your child’s best interests. Everything that you give your child to eat can be seen as a learning experience, and what you offer him can greatly impact his ability to learn and understand what he has been taught. Once you teach him about food, you can start offering him different things and teach him about making choices. In this way, you will allow him to function better, discover the world around him and continue on his road to independence.

Pediatrics & Therapy join together!!! The Mane’ Center WELCOMES Board Certified Pediatrician, Dr. Esther Gonzalez!

Dr. Esther Gonzalez, a board certified pediatrician joins the Mane Center

in Tampa, Florida. Dr. Gonzalez said, "I want to give great care to

children with neuro-behavioral disorders by taking the time to give

thorough pediatric evaluations with a neurobehavioral focus," She

feels that early detection is the key and wants to start screening

children as early as 6 months. These screenings will aim at

identifying characteristics

which may be early indicators of conditions such as ADHD and Autism.

“early detection and referral for early intervention has shown to

produce better outcomes.” said, Dr. Gonzalez.

The Mane’ Center has evaluated and treated children from as far as England, Algeria,

India, Venezuela, Puerto Rico and areas throughout the United States.  Dr.

Nelson Mane’ uses a combination of Hemispheric Integration Therapy and

Functional Medicine to treat children with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

Dr. Mane has been featured in NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX in Tampa for his

work with children on the Autism Spectrum.

“I think we now have the best of both worlds in one facility. We have

traditional and alternative care co-operating together for the benefit

of the families.  Dr. Gonzalez is unique in that she is not a

behavioral pediatrician but a pediatrician with behavioral experience.

You can tell that she has been in the trenches with the families." Said,

Dr. Mane, a board certified chiropractic neurologist.

Here’s a little background about Dr. Gonzalez:

Dr. Esther Gonzalez is a board certified pediatrician, with

subspecialty training in childhood neurobehavioral disorders. She was

born and raised in Puerto Rico. She completed medical school and

pediatric residency at The University Children's Hospital of Puerto

Rico. After her first eight years of private pediatric practice in

Puerto Rico, Dr. Gonzalez moved to Ohio in 1992. In Ohio, she was the

Medical Director for six years at Margaret Shipley Clinic in downtown

Canton.

She moved to Florida in 1998, where she has been practicing pediatrics

in the area of Citrus County.  Her practice has a primary focus is in

the care of children with neuro-behavioral

disorders, autism and developmental delay. She delivers the proper

screenings and treatment required when treating neurobehavioral

disorders such as Attention Deficit Disorder, Attention Deficit

Hyperactive Disorder, Learning Disabilities including Dyslexia and

Dyscalculia, Sensory Integration Disorder, Asperger’s Syndrome,

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Oppositional Defiant

Disorder, Tourette’s Syndrome, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and

Autism.

Dr. Gonzalez has developed a program for children on the spectrum

including parent education, medication, school programs and referrals

for therapy as needed. She addresses the children’s medical management

including reduction of medication when therapeutic intervention

provides the opportunity. Dr. Gonzalez has been a speaker for

Metadate, Focalin, Straterra and Concerta educating and updating

Primary and Pediatric Doctors on management of ADHD with Co-morbid

disorders on the use of medications for children and adults.

We keep moving forward as this grand combination of Early Detection meets with Early Intervention in helping our Autism Community.
