but not to Autism...our son was diagnosed at almost 3 yrs old and is now 19. With all the budget cuts, it has affected our ability to give him the care he needs. We are hoping for the new governor which will be taking place will reinstate what our current one has taken away.

I look forward to meeting some new people and getting some fresh ideas.

In November...Yippee ! I didn't vote for the current one as well, he is an arrogant a** that has no clue about life or people !I can't stand him. I hope our new governor will at least have a heart and realize how valuable IHSS is along with returning to the old hours we used to have before he came along. it is taxable income which is employment and stimulates the economy and is much less expensive then other care which is very hard to find anyway. I am hoping to get the word out to leave IHSS alone ! It's bad enough I got laid off as a teaching assistant because of those jerks and budget cuts, leave my only source of income alone !

Rayne, I strongly agree...couldn't agree with you more! If we all collaborate, we could make a difference.

Side Note--I actually know a parent who is also taking care of their child and doing that whole IHSS

My plans for Chas are to keep him home and try out a program called Dungarven which will take over his schooling once he turns 21. Their are not a lot of programs and group homes right now with the crappy economy, so it makes sense to keep him home until we can't take care of him anymore. I get IHSS for taking care of him which is more viable and less expensive . What we need to do is lobby congress through local senate and ask them to stop funding cuts to this program. I can't even get dental for him anymore because of this, so we need to work together and make noise. So if you would look it up ( Google should bring it up) and write to them, that wold help nation wide ! Let's make a difference !

Jamie, what did your son do after high school ?

Hi Rayne, even though my boy Kenter is much younger than Chas I am thinking ahead...what are the usual steps after 'graduating' High School. Do you have any plans for Chas such as a community college of some sort of an internship...

his name is Chas he has "graduated" high school and is in an after care program to work on his behavior issues. I live in California for those who have asked, 2 hours North of San Fransisco to be a bit more exact. I tried out both Nevada and Texas and was very disappointed with both. I have family out here so I really do not wish to move again. He gets along well with out two Pugs and they are so sweet with him.

My 24 year old son has autism. We live in central Ohio and the services are pretty good here but we are desparately trying to find a psychologist and get him on the right mix of meds. Let me know if there's anything I can help you with, ideas, etc.
