June 21st 2010 My first blog here...Posted on 21 Jun, 2010
This is the first time I write a blog in a long time. I used to do it when Tony my son was a infant. Over the years its been more difficult to keep up with.
I figure most of my life frustrations come from being a single mom of a child with special needs. There is not father in the picture. I have family but they are all over the place. My parents are older and not in the best of health, so they can't help me that much. Currently looking for respite help.
I do not have a DX on my son yet. He has been labeled PDD-NOS. The doctors seem to have mixed feelings about what may be the disability my son has. Could be brain damage during his developmental while I was pregnant. We have tests to schedule to try to rule this stuff out.
Tony is a amazing 4 yr old boy. The energy of 5 kids. He is social, one of the reason they don't think austism. He doesn't speak. He just starting using words back in October. I have got him into the school Margaret Murphy Center for Children in Auburn, Maine. Its a one on one program. All speech and OT is at the school. Tony is responding to Pecks program. Which soon he will be using at the home. That school is amazing and I would tell any parent of a special needs child to look into them for a school program. All positive things from them.
Well alittle bit about whats going on. They had taken my son off all his meds cause they wanted to see him with nothing. Well those WEEKS were so hard. We still are not done. It did end up with putting my son on risperdal. He seems to be responding well to it. Though now at school they are reporting more signs of Autism in my son. Its like we had to calm him down to see what he would actually be like if he wasn't lost in his own mind. They were seeing repeated movements and more zoning out. I've noticed the same at home. I like him being chill. He isn't being violent with me right now. So I have to say thats a plus, but yet I don't want him zoned out all the time. I guess only time will tell about that.
