Autism Craniosacral Therapy

Another popular therapy is Craniosacral therapy for autism. It is a method of alternative medicine that is practiced by physical therapists, massage therapists, and chiropractors. It is said that by gently massaging the spine and skull, nerve blockages are alleviated and bones are realigned. The aim of the therapy is to reduce the stress and anxiety that affect many of those who are diagnosed with autism. It also has the potential to strengthen the immune system.

Some parents who have decided to give their child Autism Craniosacral Therapy have said that the child became more relaxed and calm and were able to make better eye contact. It also may reduce levels of hyperactivity

Each therapy session usually lasts for about an hour to an hour and half, and should be performed by a professional. The effects are not long-lasting – therapists recommend that the child receive the therapy regularly until adulthood. There is as yet no scientific support for this treatment, but some parents say it has helped their children. At the very least, the massage the child receives during the session may reduce stress and anxiety if the child is not hypersensitive to touch.
