This service supports school staff, parents and carers to meet the needs of young people with social communication difficulties / Autism Spectrum Disorders. The service offers: Advice, support and training to staff in educational and childcare settings around an individual child or groups of children/young people; Advice to parents/carers of Early Years Children in the home regarding their child; Courses for parents/carers to increase understanding of social communication needs or Autism Spectrum Disorders; Whole school/childcare service training and advice; Support for children/young people around transition and transfer across the age ranges; Attendance at Annual Reviews; Individual work, including Therapeutic interventions where appropriate Assessment, planning and monitoring. |

Started in 2008, “Camp Communicate with Confidence” is a unique, co-ed camp for children and adolescents ages 3—12. The camp is tailored to individuals with social/pragmatic language impairments including those diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, Autism, PDD-NOS, Down’s Syndrome, ADHD, Language-Learning Disabilities, Specific Learning Disabilities, Speech/Language Impairment and Nonverbal Learning Disorder. Children without social/pragmatic language impairments also attend our camp in order to provide an inclusive camp environment to all children |

"Look in my Eyes," a game to help children on the autism spectrum
"Look in My Eyes" is a game for the iPhone and iPod touch designed to help children on the autism spectrum practice eye contact. The game rewards children for quickly focusing in on a person’s eyes. Through repeated practice we attempt to develop a habit that families can transfer to real life settings as they remind children to use the skills they have practiced in the game. The game makes practice fun as players use the points they earn to buy items for their own virtual world, such as a restaurant or autoshop - a unique reward system that grew out of our decades of classroom teaching experience (we are both teachers, one with a masters degree in special education). We have combined this experience with our extensive training in best education practices and many years of close personal relationships with children who have Asperger’s Syndrome and autism to create a social skills game we hope will benefit your child!
